B&B, Half Board or Full Board at Tafaria: What Is the Difference?

A simple explanation of Tafaria accommodation meal plans and how to choose between them.

Tafaria room rates are offered under three familiar hotel meal plans: Bed & Breakfast, Half Board and Full Board. The difference is simply which meals are included with the room.

Bed & Breakfast (B&B)

B&B includes accommodation and breakfast. Lunch and dinner can be added separately if required.

Half Board (HB)

Half Board includes accommodation, breakfast and dinner. Lunch is not included and can be added separately.

Full Board (FB)

Full Board includes accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is the simplest option for guests who expect to spend most of the day at Tafaria and want all three main meals covered.

Which meal plan fits your stay?

B&B works well when most of the day will be spent away from the property. Half Board suits guests who want breakfast before the day begins and dinner on return. Full Board is useful for stays built around Tafaria itself, including family breaks, retreats and programmes where meals help structure the day.

Dinner at Tafaria: Half Board, Full Board and Standalone Price

Dinner is included in Half Board and Full Board; B&B guests and day visitors can buy it separately.

Dinner is included in both Half Board and Full Board stays. Guests on B&B have breakfast included and can add dinner separately if they want to spend the evening at Tafaria.

Dinner for day visitors and groups

Day visitors can buy dinner as a standalone meal. Conferences, weddings and other organised groups may have an evening meal or event menu arranged within their programme instead of using the ordinary standalone dinner setup.

Breakfast at Tafaria: What Is Included and the Standalone Price

Breakfast is included in B&B, Half Board and Full Board; a standalone breakfast is also available.

Breakfast is included in every standard overnight meal plan at Tafaria: B&B, Half Board and Full Board.

Starting the day

Breakfast can be a relaxed beginning to a leisure day or the first scheduled meal for a school, conference or other organised group before the day's programme begins.

Lunch at Tafaria: Full Board, Day Visits and Standalone Price

Lunch is included in Full Board; B&B and Half Board guests can add it separately.

Lunch during a day visit

For day visitors, lunch can sit comfortably between a morning tour and an afternoon activity. Schools, conferences and events can also have lunch timed around the group's programme.

Dining at Tafaria Castle: What Guests Can Expect

Dining spaces, meal plans and what day visitors, overnight guests and groups can expect.

Meals at Tafaria are designed to sit naturally within the rest of the visit. A day visitor may stop for lunch between activities, an overnight guest may eat through a room meal plan, and a school, conference or wedding may have catering built around a timetable.

Where meals are served

Depending on the setup, guests may dine in the Ballroom, 15ni Lounge or Bailey Coffee Lounge. The spaces offer different moods, from a larger shared meal to a quieter coffee or dining stop within the castle setting.

How meal plans work

B&B includes breakfast, Half Board includes breakfast and dinner, and Full Board includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Day visitors can buy meals separately, while organised groups may have catering included in their programme or proposal.

Dietary needs

Allergies, religious dietary requirements and other important food needs are best shared in advance, particularly for schools and larger groups.

Dining at Tafaria with Children and Families

How to fit meals naturally into a family day visit or overnight stay at Tafaria.

For families, the easiest meal plan is the one that matches the pace of the day. A day visitor may add a meal between activities, while an overnight family can choose how much dining is already included through B&B, Half Board or Full Board.

Day visits with children

Lunch or an early dinner can break up a busy day of horses, swimming, games, the museum or the farm. It is usually more comfortable to give children a proper pause than to push through every activity before eating.

Overnight family stays

B&B includes breakfast, Half Board adds dinner, and Full Board adds both lunch and dinner. Separate child prices are available for the standalone breakfast, lunch and dinner meals.

Dietary requirements

Share allergies and other important dietary needs before arrival so the kitchen can plan for them, especially when several children are eating together.

Group Catering at Tafaria for Schools, Conferences and Events

How to plan meals for organised groups visiting Tafaria Castle.

Tafaria regularly caters for groups through school programmes, conferences, residential retreats, weddings and celebrations. The practical advantage of planning catering with the venue is that meals can be fitted around the programme instead of forcing the programme around an outside food arrangement.

Share the details early

Useful information includes group size, age mix, meal times, dietary restrictions and whether the programme is day-only or residential. Schools should also flag any student medical or dietary needs that require particular care.

Conference proposals currently include tea and snacks plus buffet lunch in the Half Day and Full Day packages.

Keep the schedule realistic

Large groups need time to move, wash hands, queue and settle. A timetable that gives lunch only a few minutes between two activities often looks efficient on paper but feels rushed on the ground.

For weddings and celebrations, catering should be planned together with ceremony, photography and entertainment times so guests are not kept waiting while another part of the event runs long.

The Bailey Coffee Lounge at Tafaria Castle

What to know about Tafaria’s castle coffee lounge and how it fits into an overnight or day visit.

The Bailey Coffee Lounge is a cosy lounge inside Tafaria Castle, with coffee, pastries and a fireplace.

Part of the castle atmosphere

Guests staying in the Lord's Room, the Chamber and Lord's Court have access to the Bailey lounge. That makes it a natural shared space for guests who want time inside the castle beyond simply sleeping there.

For other visitors, access and service depend on the day's operation, so it should not be assumed that every lounge is open to every guest at all times.

A slower moment in a busy itinerary

Tafaria has many active and guided experiences. A coffee stop can be useful between a museum tour, activity or meeting, especially in the cool highland setting.

If the lounge itself is important to your visit or photography, ask whether it is available on your date.
