Tafaria Taxonomy – A simple way to understand our plants

Tafaria Taxonomy is a fun and easy way to understand the plants we see every day. It groups plants into 10 simple clans so that we can understand them better. Every plant is placed into a clan based on what it’s dominant attributes.

Once you start using Tafaria Taxonomy, you’ll see plants and relate with them differently wherever you go. But here’s the cool part: These clans don’t just teach us about plants, they also teach us life skills and leadership lessons inspired by nature itself.

Note that these categorizations are collectively referred to as "Clans." It's essential to understand that these clan distinctions were created by Tafaria to simplify our understanding of local flora and do not necessarily adhere to universal scientific standards. Furthermore, one plant may belong to multiple clans due to specific characteristics that make it eligible for inclusion in various groups.

The Warriors Clan:

This group comprises plants armed with thorns, spines, or prickles as natural defense mechanisms. They can adapt their size and physical characteristics to deter large herbivores, often shedding leaves and enhancing thorny defenses during dry seasons.

The Aromatics Clan:

Aromatics are known for their delightful fragrances emanating from lush, aromatic leaves and blossoms. The aroma of their fruits significantly influences their appeal to animals, humans, and pollinating insects. Many Aromatics boast vibrant, colorful flowers.

The Edibles Clan:

This clan includes plant species with edible berries or roots suitable for human consumption. It's important to note that not all parts are edible, with the most commonly consumed portions being sweet, juicy fruits or berries.

The Ornamentals Clan:

Ornamental plants are cherished for their appealing characteristics, including vibrant flowers, captivating foliage, distinctive and shapes.

The Potent Clan:

These plants have parts that can harm humans and animals when consumed or touched or cause allergic reactions.

The Healers Clan:

These are plants recognized by the local community for perceived medicinal qualities, used in various remedies.

The Grounded:

Grounded plants serve as ground covers, rapidly spreading to cover extensive areas. They play a crucial role in retaining water, cooling the soil, and preventing soil erosion.

The Highfliers:

Highfliers are known for their towering growth, providing shade and windbreaks for the ecosystem. They create nurturing environments for other plants, often serving as hosts for parasitic species.

The Diehards:

Also known as evergreens display remarkable resilience during hot and dry seasons, maintaining their green appearance and vitality. They retain water in their leaves, ensuring their survival year-round.

The Socialites:

Socialites, or Climbers, feature long, flexible stems with abundant soft tissue, enabling rapid growth and vegetative regeneration. They lack internal structural support but can grow vertically using external support, aided by specialized structures called tendrils.
