The Dream Behind Tafaria

Tafaria Castle & Center for the Arts was born from a childhood dream. As a young boy growing up in the rural neighbourhood of the former Deighton Downs, George Tafaria imagined returning one day to help transform his community into a place of opportunity, creativity, learning and hope. Together with his wife, Eunice Tafaria, that dream became reality. Every programme, building and experience at Tafaria is an expression of that original dream.

'Once Upon a Dream'

'Once Upon a Dream'

'Once Upon a Dream' is Tafaria's founding slogan. It reflects the belief that every meaningful transformation begins with a dream that is pursued with commitment, creativity and perseverance. Visitors are invited not only to enjoy Tafaria but also to discover and pursue their own dreams.

Why Tafaria Exists

Why Tafaria Exists

Tafaria exists to demonstrate how the arts, education, conservation, science, agriculture, hospitality and technology can work together to transform rural communities. Rather than encouraging people to leave rural areas, Tafaria brings opportunity into rural communities through knowledge, creativity and enterprise.

Vision

To inspire rural transformation by creating places where creativity, knowledge, nature and human agency work together to unlock individual and community potential.

Mission

To delight the heart and enrich the mind through memorable experiences that combine the arts, learning, conservation, hospitality, innovation and community service.

Core Philosophy

The arts are the main actor at Tafaria. Science, agriculture, conservation, hospitality, leadership and technology support the arts in helping people imagine, create and solve problems. Lasting development comes from inspired people who dream, create and serve.

Rural Transformation Model

Tafaria integrates tourism, education, the creative economy, conservation and agriculture in one destination. It creates opportunities for artists, young people, neighbouring schools, farmers and visitors while preserving local heritage and the environment.

Human Agency

People are the primary agents of change. Knowledge is valuable only when applied to improve lives. Every Tafaria programme encourages participants to become active contributors rather than passive observers.

Founders

George and Eunice Tafaria founded Tafaria Castle & Center for the Arts. Their shared vision continues to guide its development.
